ABOUT BOTOX (Los Angeles Area)
top of page
Often described as the "fountain of youth," our Los Angeles BOTOX treatment is the brand name for Botulinum Toxin Type A. BOTOX® was developed originally to treat muscle disorders such as uncontrolled blinking. After it was found to be effective in reducing wrinkles, it was later approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2002. Read more about the History and Usage of Botox.
Our Los Angeles Botox treatment is used primarily to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet and other wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead and around the lips that tend to accumulate over time, as a result of years of squinting and frowning. Our Los Angeles BOTOX® works on these wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles and results are usually seen in just a few days. For more information, please visit Am I A Candidate for Botox?
BOTOX can also be very beneficial to people with headaches or excessive sweating (underarms, palms). On the hands, this condition (called hyperhidrosis) can be very bothersome, especially in professions where people are regularly required to shake hands. The treatment is simple and involves tiny injections of Botox on the palms. Results last for months, and patients have reported a very high satisfaction rate. Special pricing for this area applies, so please ask when you call for your appointment.
TYPICAL RECOVERY TIME AFTER BOTOX
top of page
Los Angeles Botox Recovery Time: Our Los Angeles BOTOX injections and other fillers are done on an outpatient basis with complimentary numbing cream as needed. Many patients find that they can visit us on their lunch breaks since these procedures typically take only 15-30 minutes (add extra time if you want numbing cream since it takes 15-30 minutes to work). After your Los Angeles Botox treatment, you might have some mild swelling or redness. Typically, this will only last for a few hours, or a day or two at most, however, everyone is different. Sun exposure should be avoided until any traces of redness or swelling are gone.

7 COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT BOTOX
top of page
Here are some of the questions we hear most. For additional FAQs about Botox, please visit our Botox Los Angeles FAQ page.
Is Botox safe?
When Botox is administered by a trained and experienced professional, it is safe. Botox has been used for over 25 years on millions of patients in more than 70 countries. It is one of the safest, most researched and monitored medications used in the world. It is actually safer than many common medications such as aspirin, insulin, or Tylenol, which are used by millions of people every day. Botox is only manufactured by Allergan Corporation, headquartered in Irvine, California. We only use 100% authentic Botox product.
What does Botox do?
Botox is a protein that blocks the microscopic signals from nerves to small muscles, allowing the muscle to relax and reduce spasm or over-activity. Less hyperactivity of the muscle helps reduce the lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin. Also, by reducing the negative movements of facial muscles, Botox can enhance the positive expressions in ones face. Many patients are amazed by how effective these minor adjustments are at making them look less tired, old, stressed or angry. The effects of Botox promote a more relaxed, well-rested appearance.
Where do you inject Botox?
Most cosmetic uses of Botox are to minimize the lines and wrinkles in our forehead, the frown lines between the eyebrow, and the “crows feet” lines around the eyes. The image below shows the most common injection sites for botox on the face.
Will I look frozen?
You should not look frozen or unnatural with Botox that has been properly injected. The goal of our highly-experienced Los Angels botox experts is to create a completely natural and refreshed look. Facial movement and expressions should look natural as well.
How often do I need Botox?
Like all medications, the duration of the effects depends on the dosage, the area of face injected, and each individual’s metabolism. With proper dosage and injection technique, the cosmetic results should last 3 to 6 months.
What are the side effects of Botox?
Botox is extremely safe with very few reported side effects. Some reported side effects include swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, inflammation, pain, and infection at the site of injection. There are no known medical conditions or diseases caused by Botox. Some people experience a temporary mild headache after treatment. In our practice, we see about a 1-2% rate for minor small bruising at the injection site on the face, and a less than 1% rate of very minor and temporary eyelid heaviness or drooping. In rare cases, some experience mild and temporary headache or flu-like symptoms, which resolve by themselves in a day or two.
I've heard some horror stories about Botox. Are they true?
There was an unethical doctor in the headlines several years ago who tried to cut corners using a fake imitation Botox which lead to unfortunate consequences. Here at Sunset, we ONLY use 100% real, certified Botox®. Our Botox Los Angeles doctors are glad to show patients the vial, which always has an Allergan hologram on it that looks like the photo below. That way, you can ensure you are getting real Botox.
