Cosmelan in Los Angeles
Melasma is no fun.
Known as one of most effective treatments for hormone-induced skin pigmentations, Cosmelan works to get rid of brown patches and discolorations on the face. It works especially well for pigmentations that have been there for years, and those which have not responded to creams or other types of treatments. At Sunset, we offer the Medical Grade version of the Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment for the best results possible.
Melasma, also known as the "mask of pregnancy," is a common problem for women. Many times birth control hormones can trigger this problem. Many patients are happy to report that after years of heavy make-up or foundation, they can enjoy a more even skin tone and be free of their melasma.
Cosmelan works at the source to regulate melanin.
Cosmelan® Depigmentation Treatment acts within the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, inhibiting the cycle of melanogenesis, or the production of melanin, which causes the deposit of pigment in the skin. This allows the pigment producing cells to slow down over-production and function in a more uniform way. It is non-invasive, fast, and very effective for all types of melasma.
Cosmelan is safe for all skin types.
Cosmelan is safe to use any time of the year, and is compatible with all skin types, including darker toned Asian and Latin skin. The light peeling effect rejuvenates and increases luminosity and the texture of the skin.
Who shouldn't use Cosmelan?
You may not use Cosmelan if you are:
- Pregnant or nursing
- Have been using Accutane anytime in the past 6 months
- Have rosacea
Getting ready for a Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment.
Prior to Cosmelan, discontinue the use of glycolic, retinols and other depigmentation treatments 7 to 10 days prior to giving treatment. Also, be sure to tell us about any other medications or topical treatments you are using, or have used in the past year.
After your in-office Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment.
Slight inflammation, erythema, redness, burning and tightening of the skin are normal 24 to 48 hours of the Cosmelan mask application. Use the Home-Care products as directed to help minimize this.
The use of any other depigmentation products is not recommended during treatment in order to prevent any unpleasant or unexpected interactions.
How the Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment works: 2-step process.
The Cosmelan® Depigmentation Treatment is comprised of two phases.
STEP 1: In-Office Mask
The first phase consists of a professional evaluation of your skin type and condition. The Cosmelan® Mask is then applied to the skin. The active ingredients induce lightening of hyperpigmentation and inhibit the production of melanin in the skin and you will be instructed to leave the mask on for 6 - 12 hours, depending on your skin type. You will wear the mask home, and remove as intructed.
STEP 2: Home-Care Program
The home care program may vary slightly, depending on skin type, so follow the instructions you are given at the office. The basics for home care are as follows, to maximize the results of the treatment:
Day 1 – Day of mask application
After recommended time of application has elapsed, remove the Cosmelan® 1 Mask with mesoestetic® Milk or Gel Cleanser and warm water. Immediately after removing mask, apply a small amount of the Hydravital Factor K Cream over the entire facial area. This cream will soothe and hydrate the skin, while contributing to
the brightening of the complexion.
Days 2 - 14
- Apply Cosmelan® 2 Maintenance Cream 2 - 3 times per day
- After cleansing the skin, apply a “pea size” of Cosmelan® 2 Maintenance
Cream to the entire facial area. Allow to penetrate 15 minutes.
- Apply a small amount of Hydravital Factor K Cream both morning and
evening.
- Complete with an application of mesoestetic® Complete Moisturizing Sunscreen (for
normal to dry skin) or mesoestetic® Dermatological Complete Sunscreen (for
combination to oily skin)
Weeks 3 – 10
Continue applying Cosmelan® 2 Maintenance Cream 2 times per day followed by
Hydravital Factor K Cream and Complete Moisturizing Sunscreen (for normal to dry
skin) or mesoestetic® Dermatological Complete Sunscreen (for combination to oily skin)
Weeks 11 – 6 Months
Continue applying Cosmelan® 2 Maintenance Cream 1 time per day followed by
Hydravital Factor K Cream and Complete Moisturizing Sunscreen (for normal to dry
skin) or mesoestetic® Dermatological Complete Sunscreen (for combination to oily skin)
