Ear Surgery Los Angeles
Ear Surgery Children and Adults
Otoplasty, sometimes called ear pinning or ear surgery, is a procedure which sets prominent ears back, closer to the head, or reduces the size of large ears. At Sunset, we specialize in both adult and children otoplasty in Los Angeles and greater Southern California. Depending on the nature of the case, this ear surgery is often done on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia.
We also offer earlobe repair for stretched out or torn earlobes, which is done quickly with an in-office procedure using local anesthesia.
The Specific Benefits of Otoplasty for Children: Self Esteem
Protruding or disfigured ears can take a toll on a child's self-esteem due to teasing and nicknames. Children in good health around 5 or 6 years of age are ideal candidates for this surgical procedure, which can correct the shape, size and/or proportion of the ears. Even the smallest corrections can have profound benefits to a child's confidence and self-esteem. Many of our adult clients endured teasing as children, and wish they had done it earlier in life.
Typical Recovery Time: For 1-3 days after their otoplasty Los Angeles patient's
head will be wrapped in a bandage to promote the best healing possible. The
ears may throb or ache a little for a few days, but this can be
relieved by medication. Stitches usually are removed (or dissolved)
at the one week. Any activity in which the ear might be bent
should be avoided for at least a month. Most Los Angeles ear surgery patients go back to
work about 5 days after their procedure.
