Surgery for Gynecomastia Los Angeles
Male Breast Reduction
Why Do I Have This Problem?
Gynecomastia is
an often-embarrassing physical issue that is hereditary and typically does not respond to weight loss or working out. Gynecomastia is a medical term for a condition wherein
men develop fatty breast-like tissue in the chest area. The term
comes from the Greek words gyne meaning "woman" and mastos
meaning "breast."
The condition is relatively common in adolescent boys, and 90% of
the time symptoms disappear in a matter of months or years (usually
once adolescence ends). About 10% are burdened with this problem
after puberty and it can cause shame and embarrassment. Though certain
drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment,
there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases.
What Can You Do About Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia surgery, sometimes called a male breast reduction, can help tremedously for men who feel self-conscious about this problem. Gynecomastia surgery is often done on an outpatient basis in a matter of an hour or two, and uses liposuction to strategically remove fat tissue
from the chest area, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer,
and more contoured.
For best results, it is important to find a plastic surgeon with experience in treating gynecomastia and performing male breast reductions.
Typical Recovery Time After Gynecomastia Surgery:
Most Los Angeles gynecomastia surgery patients take only a few days off work after their procedures. They typically need to avoid working out for about two weeks after surgery. In a small number of cases, some numbness of the area can occur, but is usually temporary.
