The surgeons at Sunset customize the method of body sculpting for each patient, using state-of-the-art technologies to get the best results possible for each area of the body.

General vs. Local Anesthesia
Liposuction done for full-body sculpting and which requires the removal of multiple pounds of fat is typically done under general anesthesia. Areas treated may include inner and outer thighs, waistline or abdomen (photos).

For cases where only a small area, or several small areas, need to be treated, outpatient lipo can be done by one of our award-winning surgeons in our office using local anesthesia. We discuss this more on the MINI Sculpt page, which is what we call outpatient lipo using local anesthesia. Popular areas that can be treated on an outpatient basis include under chin/under neck (submental), small love handles, "muffin top", or lower abdomen ("pooch") or small "saddlebags".

Liposuction vs. Liposculpture?
Some use "liposculpture" to indicate more delicate areas such as the arms or under the chin, however, most people use the two terms interchangeably, and they both mean to sculpt the body with precision by removing fat in key areas.

SMART Lipo

Smart Lipo body sculpting is a minimally invasive, laser liposuction Los Angeles patients have often heard of. It targets small, hereditary pockets of fat on the body, liquifies the fat and then extracts it. This advanced technology uses the optimal blend of several laser wavelengths for fat removal, tissue tightening and safe, reliable results. Best of all, it offers less bruising, swelling and recovery time than traditional liposuction.

While SMART Lipo can be used in an Operating Room, this technology is most often performed on an outpatient basis (in our office) under local anesthesia (you’re awake during the procedure). The incisions used are about the size of the tip of a pen and the liquefied fat is gently suctioned out. During this process, new collagen is produced which also gives a tightening effect.

In most cases, only one treatment is needed but also depends on the number of areas being treated. Results may vary, but usually can be seen within 1-2 weeks, with continued improvement over 3-6 months.

SLIM Lipo

SlimLipo technology is laser-assisted liposuction that "melts" unwanted fat efficiently and effectively before it is removed. By selectively targeting fat, optimized wavelengths help deliver the smoothest, most beautiful results possible with significantly less downtime compared with traditional liposuction. Recovery time is quite short for most patients with Slim Lipo. Depending on the amount of fat removed, some patients can even return to work within a several days. Many patients are surprised by how little bruising they experience after having SLIM LIPO.

SlimLipo can have skin tightening effects for patients with sagging skin. Further, patients who have had previous liposuction with resulting skin irregularities may be good candidates for SlimLipo’s skin smoothing benefits due to the targeted “melting” of fat.

VASER LipoSelection

We also offer the VASER LipoSelection® System. Also known as liposuction or liposculpture, the VASER LipoSelection® System helps deliver smoother results than traditional methods using ultrasound energy, as well as reduced post-operative swelling and recovery time compared with traditional liposuction. Liposuction is not a weight loss method, it is meant to sculpt the body to achieve beautiful contours and a balanced, proportionate look. Areas which tend to hold excess weight hereditarily can be re-contoured.

Dr. Yamini was quoted in the LA Times in an article "LIPO FOR A SIZE 2: Liposculpture does more than remove fat. Good thing too, when there's not a lot of fat available" by Kavita Daswani.  The article discusses how VASER High-Definition Liposculpture is used not only to remove fat but "also to create a highly defined and sculpted look."
