General information about Perlane in Los Angeles
top of page
Perlane is a cosmetic dermal filler made from non-animal stabilized
hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel, which can non-surgically restore youthfulness and volume to the face. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in the human body. It is for this reason that allergy testing is not required prior to having perlane injections. Perlane is made by the same company who makes Restylane, and the only difference between Restylane and Perlane is that Perlane utilizes larger gel particles and is therefore intended to be injected deeper into the skin. It is for this reason that our Los Angeles Perlane patients usually enjoy the rejuvenating effect for a longer time than our Restylane Los Angeles patients.
Perlane is approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

What causes wrinkles and fold in the skin?
top of page
One factor involved in the development of facial wrinkles is the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that provides skin with flexibility and volume. As we age, our skin begins to lose some of its hyaluronic acid, which decreases the skin's volume and increases the speed at which wrinkles and folds occur.

Restylane is one of the most researched products of its kind (dermal fillers). Restylane has been used for over a decade and has a wealth of published studies that indicate its effectiveness and safety. Restylane is FDA approved, and is available in over 70 countries. It has been used in well over 1 million treatments in the United States. Though patients with a history of sensitivity to gram-positive bacterial proteins may need to check with their physician before treatment, there are no animal proteins in the compound and therefore there is no allergy testing required.

Results are unique to each individual and the doctor will be able to evaluate your progress before deciding when another treatment should be administered.

Usually numbing cream or numbing injections are used, depending on patient preference. So, you may need to wait for the numbing to take effect. Results are fairly immediate and no downtime is required. Most people experience a little swelling or redness for a few hours afterward. In some, minor redness, swelling or bruising can last for several days or even up to a week, though it's our experience that this is rare.
Why does it matter who injects my Perlane in Los Angeles?

There are a wide variety of healthcare practicioners allowed to perform injectable treatments with some training, including dentists, nurses, ob/gyns, etc. At Sunset, only our two highly trained, board certified plastic surgeons perform injectable services. Some might expect higher prices here for having surgeons who do the injections, but actually, we are able to keep our prices incredibly competitive due to the volume of injectable products we order for the practice.
The difference between getting injectable services like Perlane done by various healthcare practicioners vs. a board certified plastic surgeon includes years of specialized aesthetic surgical training and experience and an eye that is also trained to achieve beatuful results that looks natural. For example, you may notice that even children have nasolabial folds. Therefore, these should not be filled in to the point where they no longer exist, which would look odd and unnatural.
With years and years of experience in injectable treatments, both Dr. Yamini and Dr. Svehlak are able to effectively gauge the amount of dermal filler to use, the brand/type that will work best for each patient, and exactly where to put it to make it look natural and youthful.
