Sunset’s body lift procedure in Los Angeles addresses a serious problem created by major weight loss: With significant weight loss over a relatively short period of time, the remaining skin doesn’t always retain the elastic qualities needed to shrink back to a patient’s new, smaller shape. This often leaves patients with excessive amounts of hanging skin, which can be corrected with a lift procedure. Circumferential body lift is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten muscles of the abdominal wall. Results can be extremely dramatic, and when done properly, the scar is hidden in the underwear area. This is a major procedure and therefore it is often done at a hospital.

The lift is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery, including body lift, until they are within 10 percent of their goal/healthy weight and have been able to maintain their weight loss for at least six months.

Typical Recovery Time After Body Lift in Los Angeles

After undergoing this lift at our plastic surgery facility, the recovery period is typically longer than after a tummy tuck because of the extent of the internal sewing. Patients typically return to normal activity at approximately six to 12 weeks. This is to allow the incisions and surrounding tissues to heal.
