From Wrinkle Smoothers to Lip Injections
*Patient results may vary.
Healthy, youthful skin is full of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and other elements that give it a smooth and rounded fullness. As these elements begin to disappear over time, the signs of aging begin to appear, mostly in the form of wrinkles, lines, and folds. Fortunately, all of these—and more—can be corrected by dermal fillers. Los Angeles and Beverly Hills area patients can find a variety of filler options at Sunset Cosmetic Surgery.
Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM®, replace that vital skin component, providing benefits that last for months or even years at a time. Dermal fillers serve to smooth out wrinkles, fill in hollows, and act as lip injections to create plumper, fuller lips.

When it comes to injectables, Dr. Steven Svehlak and Dr. Daniel Yamini each have more than 16 years’ experience. Their history of applying dermal fillers and other minimally invasive cosmetic products makes them providers of choice for Los Angeles-area patients who want natural-looking results. As plastic surgeons, they have a thorough understanding of how various treatments and procedures interact with the face.
What Are Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid?
Collagen is a protein found all throughout the body. Its role in the skin is to provide structure. It regularly breaks down and is replaced, though the natural process slows as we age, until it drops to the point that the facial framework fails, leading to sagging, drooping, and hollows.
Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate that holds water well, which allows it to keep skin moist and smooth. Like collagen, it increasingly breaks down over time. Dry skin begins to form wrinkles.
Dermal fillers act the same as naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the skin, restoring moisture and volume. Some also kickstart collagen production. This makes them particularly suited for reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds and other facial lines. Some formulations are also used as lip injections, plumping up lips that are naturally thin or that have thinned over time.

The Dermal and Lip Fillers Treatment Session
Dermal fillers can be administered in as little as 15 minutes, depending on the type used and the scope of the treatment. Dr. Svehlak and Dr. Yamini personally handle the injections, keeping the treatments in the hands of experienced, trained, and certified medical professionals.
Results vary, but patients can generally expect some minor redness and swelling at the injection site to resolve within a couple of days after their session, followed by increasingly visible results.
Hyaluronic acid–based dermal fillers have an immediate effect in that they add physical volume to areas where it was previously missing or is desired, as with lip injections. Calcium–based fillers have an immediate effect as well, though their main benefit continues to be seen over weeks as new collagen is built beneath the skin’s surface.
Bring questions of cost, side effects to watch for, and other details to your consultation, where you can discuss specifics depending on the dermal fillers to be used and areas to be treated.
Options Beyond Dermal Fillers
Another injectable, BOTOX® Cosmetic, is frequently used together with dermal fillers to rejuvenate a patient’s face from forehead to chin. While dermal fillers address the static wrinkles that form due to the loss of hyaluronic acid and more, BOTOX® Cosmetic temporarily smooths out what are known as dynamic wrinkles, which appear when certain muscles contract. Dysport® does this as well.
As effective as minimally invasive treatments are against wrinkles and some issues related to volume loss, the changing facial contours and deep creases and sagging that come with age may be best corrected by a facelift or neck lift. Both surgeries offer long–lasting results.
The doctors at Sunset Cosmetic Surgery work with each patient to develop an individualized plan, explaining the unique benefits of the various dermal fillers, as well as other treatments and procedures available. From the consultation on, every decision is made with one ultimate goal in mind: beautiful, natural-looking results that leave you looking like a younger, refreshed, and rejuvenated version of yourself.
