The Lipo Skinny…

Liposuction/Power Assisted Liposuction is one of the most popular and in-demand cosmetic procedures. Removing stubborn fat within minutes sounds like a dream come true to just about anybody. Even better, we can actually utilize the fat aka “liquid gold” on other parts of the body to shape and contour; a fat transfer or Brazilian Butt Lift. Either way…liposuction and related procedure are becoming more and more desired.

How is traditional liposuction performed?

The first steps of undergoing traditional liposuction begin with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon analyzing the patients’ body and listening to/understanding their desires and concerns. Where one patient might want the fat taken from one area of the body and placed right back into another area to enhance shape, the next patient may want to get rid of it in specific areas entirely.

Once it is determined that liposuction is the best procedure to achieve the patient’s desired results liposuction surgery is scheduled. This is one procedure that can be performed in a procedure room in-office or in a surgery center depending on the surgeons’s judgment and detail of the surgery.
Small incisions are made and skin protectors are placed so that a large cannula can be placed between the fatty and muscular tissues in order to reach the areas of the body where fat will be removed. A cannula is a thin tube with a hole in the end insert  into the tissue in order to pull fat using a suction method.

What is Power Assisted Liposuction?

Power Assisted Liposuction is when the cannula used vibrates rapidly in order to break up the fat and makes it easy to remove evenly and in a smooth fashion. What makes this technique so fantastic is that there is less stress on the body during surgery. This is because there is less force needed to break up the fat than with a regular non-power assisted liposuction cannula. The fat is broken up and ready to be sucked out in a quick and easy manner. The results are beautiful, even and smooth

When deciding if liposuction is the best treatment it is best to consult the advice of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, do your research; in the video featured in this blog we see Dr. Svehlak using the Power Assisted Liposuction technique to treat Gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is the swelling and abnormal size of male breast tissue. After consulting with the patient, Dr. Svehlak determined liposuction would be the best treatment for this male patient and was able to achieve great and even results and decided to use the Power Assisted Liposuction technique to achieve smooth and even results!
