We’ve all heard horror stories of women with droopy eyelids, overarched eyebrows, or asymmetrical lips after a Botox procedure gone wrong. Botox is supposed to be one of the simplest and safest routes to achieving a youthful, rejuvenated appearance; so how does this happen?

For the most part, anyone with a medical license in any of the various medical fields who takes a weekend course can become certified to inject Botox.  With little knowledge or experience, individuals at med spas or dentists’ offices begin offering Botox injections. Some even use their medical license to purchase Botox and then allow aestheticians or nurses who work under them to perform the injections.

Although administering Botox may look simple, it is a delicate medical procedure that is best performed by someone with extensive medical education in the anatomy and physiology of the face. The human face has 43 different muscles that work together to help you blink, chew, swallow, and convey emotion. In addition to muscles, your face has a network of nerves and blood vessels that also play a crucial role.

Those who administer Botox must know exactly where to place the injections and how much Botox to use in order to achieve the desired effect. If the injections are placed even slightly off the mark, not only may the results may look unnatural, but other very serious problems may occur.

At Sunset Cosmetic Surgery, our doctors are both double Board certified, having passed the rigorous standards of both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.  This means that our surgeons completed a five years of surgical training in addition to medical school, including a specific plastic surgery residency program. Both surgeons at Sunset are also Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as well as members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

In addition to extensive medical training, our doctors are some of the most experienced Botox injectors in the nation. They have achieved Black Diamond status with Allergan, the makers of Botox, because they are among the top 1% of injectors nationwide.

Appropriate training, experience, and certifications are all essential to receiving the best possible results from Botox treatments. In the hands of Sunset’s skilled, board-certified plastic surgeons, Botox is a safe and effective means to achieving a youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
